Reading Challenge: My June (Beach) Reading Recap
In my opinion, June was a VERY successful reading month…granted, a majority of my reading happened while I was sitting beachside at my happy place (Siesta Key, I’m talking about you). I had a goal for ten books, but I was only able to read 9. Thankfully, eight of them were excellent reads and only one was the first DNF I’ve had in a long time.
Reading Recap
- This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune – 5 STARS. This was one of my most anticipated reads for June and it did NOT disappoint. I was so excited to read this and I absolutely devoured it. One of my favorites from Carley for sure…I might even say it is my favorite of hers (that might be controversial, but whatever).
- Grief Is for People by Sloane Crosley – 4 STARS. I first came across this book when I was in Indy visiting my little sister for her white coat ceremony and it was not what I expected at all. I think it was a great book to read because I’ve experienced heavy grief in my life, but I do wish I would have read it after I experience said grief. It was extremely emotional listening to the audiobook, but again, I think I needed it.
- The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren – 5 STARS. I have yet to come across a book by the best friend duo that is Christina Lauren that I have not liked. This was definitely one of my favorites, and I cannot wait to discover more of their books.
- The Catch (Influencer #3) by Amy Lea – 4 STARS. This concluded the Influencer series that I had been reading. I definitely think the second book in the series was by far my favorite, but Mel’s book definitely had me laughing out loud.
- Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren – 4 STARS. Another Christina Lauren book checked off the list. I borrowed this from the library and it was a great book to start my beach vacation off on the right foot. It was such a cute book that I was pleasantly entertained reading it while lounging around in Siesta Key.
- Summer Ever After by Jane Crittenden – 5 STARS. This was my First Reads pick for June and it did not disappoint. I’m so glad I read it beachside and I totally devoured it. If I remember correctly, it comes out today (July 1st) so pick it up if you’re interested!
- My Evil Mother by Margaret Atwood – 4 STARS. This was another First Reads option that I picked up and the perfect short story to keep me from falling into a reading slump. I really enjoyed it although I do not know what I expected from this book, it was weird …. but a good kind of weird? Idk, if it intrigues you – read it.
- The Dixon Rule (Campus Diaries #2) by Elle Kennedy – 4 STARS. I kept putting this aside until I was headed to Siesta Key because I had been dying to read this and enjoy it beachside. I definitely loved The Graham Effect more, but Elle Kennedy doesn’t disappoint me (EVER). I can’t wait to read the third book, although I have no idea who it’s about LOL 2025 needs to hurry up.
- Bye, Baby by Carola Lovering – 1 STAR. I REALLY wanted to like this book and I had the hardest time reading it. Eventually, I gave in (guilt and all) and DNF’d it because I could not handle the torture I felt trying to finish reading it. I was disappointed since I truly do not like to DNF books, at all, but I could not do it.
And that’s a wrap!
Like I said, June was a good reading month but I have high hopes for July. I’m thinking I can keep this momentum going and hit my goal for six books in July. Here are the books I’m hoping to be able to conquer this month:
- Girl Abroad by Elle Kennedy
- Summer at the Saint by Mary Kay Andrews
- Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
- Everyone I Kissed Since You Got Famous by Mae Marvel
- Picking Daisies on Sunday by Liana Cincotti
- The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros
- The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center
- Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan
Here is what I read in May, in case you want to check any of those out…also, follow me on Goodreads and TikTok 🙂
