About

Hi there!

My name is Kristen. I started this blog as a way to get back in touch with my creative side. I’ve previously dipped my toes in the blogging world, a few times actually, but it never stuck. After a while, I got really bored and had what was probably the worst creative block of my life. Since that relatively long, and hard, creative block I’ve learned a lot about myself which has brought me here – to you! At Kristen, but Call Me KJ I hope to really get back to my roots. Talk about life experiences, fun projects, fashion, shopping, makeup and beauty, traveling, and so much more.

Let’s talk a little more about Kristen, but Call Me KJ.

I’m pretty sure you can figure out why the name is what it is, as I mentioned before – I am Kristen, but most people call me KJ. It’s a nickname my PE coach made up in elementary to avoid having to use my last name and it has since become a sort of second identity of mine. As I mentioned before, I attempted to blog years ago which has prepared me to reembark on this adventure, but this time I’ll be doing things a little differently. Instead of focusing so much on forcing my writing and constantly having content for the site, I want to make this process feel organic and natural. This is a space to come, hang out, read, learn things, and have fun. At the end of the day, life is way too crazy not to have fun along the way.

Here are 7 fun facts about me to help us get acquainted:

  1. I am 33 years old
  2. Currently located in Miami, FL
  3. Although I was born and raised in Miami, I lived in Orlando for seven years while I worked for Disney.
  4. While at Disney, I worked at Magic Kingdom on the parade route, at the Town Square theater, and my favorite job while on Main Street: driving the Steam Train! After my fun in the sun (and parks) I went somewhere with much more shade – and air condition – Pop Century! I was a front desk/concierge host at Pop Century during my pregnancy. After my pregnancy, and some pretty rough times, I moved over to a back office job with Workforce Management where I stayed (albeit changed positions a few times) until I made the very difficult decision to leave Disney!
  5. My current job, and the reason I moved back to Miami, left me working in the entertainment industry but in a completely different and NEW sector: Production! I work for NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises in Production Finance.
  6. I did not study accounting or finance, I didn’t even really study or major in Business – but I did get my Masters in Human Resources. But that’s not what gave me the upper hand in securing my new job. It was actually working for Disney that did that! Since I started, I successfully completed a second Master’s degree, this time in International Business so it covered the “lack of business background” I was afraid of having.
  7. I mentioned above I was pregnant once – I have one son, Enzo, who was stillborn on December 12, 2013. He is my pride & joy, and every day I remind myself that I am here to make him proud in all I do.
