Let’s Talk about the Mindblowing Mindf*ck Series

I posted a video on TikTok about how much I enjoyed reading the Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby, but I wanted to get into a more in-depth review. Seriously, these books were so good I read them twice within a ten day span (took me roughly 3.5 days the first time and 1.5 the second time). it was THAT good.

First and foremost, although this series is amazing, there are serious trigger warnings. I would say that if you’re uncomfortable with any of the following topics or situations this series might not be for you.

  • 1.Abusive Relationship
  • 2.Assault
  • 3.Attempted Murder
  • 4.Attempted Rape
  • 5.Child Abuse
  • 6.Death
  • 7.Fire
  • 8.Homophobia
  • 9.Murder
  • 10.Police Corruption and Brutality
  • 11.Religion, Religious Trauma, Cult Like Religious Behavior
  • 12.Sexism
  • 13.Sexual Abuse
  • 14.Sexual Assault
  • 15.Torture
  • 16.Violence

Now that we have covered that, let’s get into it. The Mindf*ck Series was written by S.T. Abby, (or Kristy Cunnings, or C.M. Owenes). Sadly, the author did pass away from a car accident in 2021 so there will not be anything else written by her but she does have over 20 other books you can check out on her website.

This series is a dark romance with a crime drama and psychological thriller sub-genre. It is about a female serial killer and an FBI profiler who end up falling in love, the only problem is that he doesn’t know she is the serial killer he is hunting. It’s an addictive, intense, and all-consuming type of dark romance. I seriously could not put the books down.

This review will be for the series as a whole, since I did buy the book that had all five individual books in one. This was actually a benefit since I could not put the book down and did not want to stop reading. I’m telling you, I read it TWICE in ten days.

So what is this series really about? Well, it is a dark romance that centers around Lana and Logan. The caveat is that Lana is a serial killer and Logan is an FBI profiler. Obviously, Lana should not be falling for the one person who can end her before she’s done but she can’t seem to let him go and the feeling is reciprocated by Logan.

Revenge is a dish best served cold… Now that I agree with. It means they forget you’re coming for them, and their screams sound so much prettier when the time finally comes.

Lana Myers

Lana is definitely a kick ass character. Despite her past, her quest for revenge, and her flaws (both physical and emotional) she is extremely likeable. I found myself invested in her story and quest for revenge, even rooting for her at certain points. Each book reveals a little more about Lana and her “why”. Even after the pieces of the backstory are revealed, you are not prepared for the impact or weight of the situation. S.T. Abby did an amazing job of giving you enough details without overwhelming you with descriptions (despite having some gruesome moments). Honestly, when things get dark, the series does not sugarcoat it. There are gruesome scenes, some heartbreaking and some that will leave you wanting your own revenge in her defense.

I think that a lot of the reasons you want Lana and Logan to work out as a couple is because she is the darkness and he is her light. He taps into a side of Lana that she feared was long gone, bringing her back from the dark place she goes to in order to execute these murders. I really loved Lana’s character. She definitely had the most character development and growth, both from flashbacks from her past and throughout the series itself.

As the story develops, there is a lot of character development for everyone (not just Lana and Logan) that I really enjoyed. You also witness the friendship Jake and Lana have, which is just so beautiful to see. He is her soulmate in the most platonic of ways and it is beautiful to see how much he loves her. Even the friendship between Logan and Hadley, or Logan and the other members of his team is fun to read about. As much as darkness there is in this book, there is a lot of light, and these friendships bring a lot of that out. Jake to me was the best mix of the Penelope Garcia and Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, and Hadley was Penelope Garcia with a side of Abby Sciutto from NCIS. The four of them together was chefs kiss.

This series was so damn good. It is full of heartbreaking and dark moments, with a lot of revenge, but then there is a sense of feeling like things will get better at the end. The friendships and relationships formed throughout the five books drive the story forward, but the overall plot was spectacularly written. I’ve read books where the plot is amazing, but the character development was stalled and that’s not the case with this series. It is through and through a 4.75 out of 5 stars. Hands down my favorite series in a while.

I am so happy that I was targeted on TikTok and picked up this series. It’ll be the series I recommend for years to come, that’s for sure. I even would recommend binging it around Halloween since there are some horror movie overlaps hidden within.

GO READ IT.
