Currently…

I am proud to start this week’s “Currently” series with the update that I have officially finished one book, and I’m well underway with my second, with the intention of starting a third by the end of the week! Can I do it? I better. Why am I saying, “I better”? Because I officially increased my GoodReads Challenge to 35 books this year, rather than the original goal of 30; this places me “on track” instead of the “1 book ahead” that I have been for the last several weeks. Will I surpass this goal? I better, again! I am on a mission, and I better not stand in my own way!

In other news, my mother and aunt are going to Istanbul for two weeks which means they won’t be here for Mother’s Day. Why is that news worthy? Well, because as a bereaved mother, all I want to do is avoid Mother’s Day and this year, I FINALLY CAN (again!). For the first time in four years, I will finally be able to spend Mother’s Day the way I want…in peace! This means no getting dressed, no socializing, staying in pajamas or loungewear, alone, eating tubs of ice cream or whatever the hell I am in the mood for, etc. The kind of Mother’s Day I like to have.

Today is the first day of my attempt to get back on track diet-wise and so far, it is going well. I have had the urge to cheat, but so far I’ve pushed through. If I make it to tomorrow without giving in then I am well on my way back to losing weight (so cross your fingers for me).

I also finally reapplied for my global entry; one more step closer to being able to travel freely it feels like! Although I’m not sure if I will make it out of the US in 2021, I hope to go somewhere (anywhere outside the US) next year. From what my family has been saying, we’re going to have to get boosters for the COVID vaccine in the fall so maybe we can actually have semi-normal lives again come the end of the year.

Oh and how could I forget! My application for my second Master degree has officially been submitted and is under review. I will hear back, hopefully, in the next week or two. Additionally, I was accepted into the Mentorship program at Telemundo; it’s a six month mentorship program. My assignment and first orientation is on Thursday, followed by the kick-off on May 10th! I am very excited. 2021 is turning out to be quite eventful for my career, although my promotion last year was the best thing that happened in such a horrible year!
