It’s Time for Some of My Favorite “Fall Favorites”
Supposedly, today is the first day of the fall season; except, living in South Florida you wouldn’t think so. We have two seasons, hot and hotter. Just kidding; sometimes we have a cold front here or there, but it’s nothing like what the rest of the country experiences. Anyway, back to the point of the post — it is officially fall!
When I lived in Central Florida, Orlando to be exact, there was a serious disruption of everyday life when we went from the “summer” season to what was known as the “fall” season — AKA when Disney thew up all of their Halloween decor; so much so, that you wouldn’t think there was anything other than Halloween-time during this so-called “fall” season. Then once that was over and done with, and November 1st rolled around the corner, Disney threw up again; this time it was the Christmas decorations.
In Miami though, the fall decor is typically within individual peoples homes and not so much out in the open. That is, unless, you were going shopping for said fall decor and then you were surrounded by it. Like at TJ Maxx or Target, you can’t turn the corner without there being something pumpkin related within your visibility.
Ironically, today, we woke up with a “cold front” which was when the temperature dropped from 95 to 81. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that it is not 100 degrees outside, but I would rather the temperature be in the low 70’s. I’m not being ungrateful am I?
Anyway, back to the point of this post. Fall favorites. Now that the temperatures are supposed to be dropping, it’s what I like to call CANDLE SEASON! My current favorite candle is the one I created with my girlfriends a few weeks ago when I went to Candle Land Miami experience in Wynwood. How would I describe this place in one word? HEAVENLY. It didn’t just smell delicious, but it pumped out some pretty spectacular candles. I, of course, was extra special and upgraded my vessel to the bigger size. This allowed me the opportunity to create a candle with 17 ounces of deliciousness, rather than the typical 11 ounces. Thank God that I did. Seriously, this candle is what I imagine heaven to smell like. I chose an Evergreen scent, because duh, and I don’t regret it whatsoever. I would, and will, do it again.
Just a few days before I went to this experience, I placed an order on Hotel Collection’s website for two candles inspired by some of my favorite Hotel Lobby scents. First, was the Black Velvet, inspired by the Edition Hotel in Miami Beach; the second candle was the My Way scent, which was inspired by the 1 Hotel Miami. The both smell absolutely divine. I can’t wait to burn them, after my vessel from Candle Land Miami is done, of course.
I truly am really simple; I like what I like and 85% of the time I stick to that. I have been known to burn Christmas/Evergreen scent all year round. I hoard enough of that scent to be able to do so. I actually have four Henri Bendel candles that I bought before they closed down, that I have yet to get to because I keep buying new candles and pushing those further back into storage (which I am totally OK with). I love Anthropologie candles, I buy them very frequently as well so those add to the collection and then when Bath & Body Works have their three-wick candle sales I typically buy more in their Black Teakwood and Evergreen scents. I’m telling you, I am a 100% and proud of it, candle hoarder especially in those scents!
Pumpkin spice is definitely not a scent that I would buy. It actually makes me want to barf; I don’t like cinnamon either. It just isn’t for me, I feel like it can get overbearing, and I truly don’t like how they smell. My mother, aunt, and sisters love them though.
Another “fall favorite” item that I love is blankets! I don’t know what it is about the fall, or at least the idea of the fall season, that makes me want to buy a new blanket each year. I live in Florida, trust me, the ten blankets I already own are plenty! Of course, in typical KJ fashion, I will most likely buy a new blanket. I mean, why not, right? I have an ottoman at the foot of my bed that’s meant to be a tool for the dogs to get on and off my bed, which they do not use. Instead, I have it fully stocked with all the blankets I buy and keep in my room. There are some rogue ones found in the hall closet that I think my aunt took hoping to dispel the unnecessary purchase of new blankets but it never works. Once a habit is created, there is very little that can stop me from continuing (as seen in my candle addiction).
