Disney’s NEW Lightning Lane Multi Pass System
Disney has officially retired their Genie+ feature that originally launched in 2021. Now, they offer a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. I went to Disney this past week and used this new feature, so you don’t have to!
With this change, Disney’s advertised that you’d be able to plan ahead and save time in line. Question is, Is this really the case? Let’s dive into that.
Disney promises that guests are able to skip the standby line and join a “shorter line” for select attractions and experiences. That when you purchase the Multi Pass, the Single Pass, or even both, you are able to “enjoy more magic” in your day.
How does the Lightning Lane Multi / Single Pass Work?
With the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass, or Single Pass, you are able to purchase your Lightning Lane passes days in advance of your park visit. If you are staying at a Disney hotel you are able to purchase, and pre-select three of the approved attractions, seven days in advance. If you are not staying at a Disney hotel, you are able to do the same three days prior to your park reservation. You can purchase the Lightning Lane passes for the days you have valid theme park admission starting at 7:00 AM EST on their first day of eligibility.
This new feature allows you to choose which attraction and arrival window you want before purchasing the pass, that way you have a better idea of what to expect. You are also able to make plans for multiple days, all in the same day, which is a big selling point. Then, once you are in the park, you can make an additional selection (subject to availability**), after you have enjoyed your first multi pass experience. If you have a park hopper, or annual pass, you will even be able to choose from multi pass experiences in other parks (again, subject to availability**).
It is also very important to note that you are only allowed one Lightning Lane entry per attraction, per day.
Bonus perks, for buying the Lightning Lane Multi or Single passes, are receiving digital downloads of select attraction photos and videos, taken through the Photopass Service and the Disney PhotoPass Lenses.
Of course, there is a disclaimer on Disney’s website that reminds guest that Lightning Lane passes are nonrefundable and nontransferable. The attractions and availability vary by date, are subject to changes or closure, are limited in availability and are definitely not guaranteed.
What Rides Are Included in the Multi / Single Pass(es)?
As always, it is important to remember that the Lightning Lane experiences and ride options are always subject to change without notice and are subject to availability. It’s best that you check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit for the most up-to-date details. on what is included and if anything is no longer available.

How Much Will This Cost Me?
The Lightning Lane Multi Passes and Single Passes will vary in price by date and theme park, and you can view the prices within the My Disney Experience app.
My visit was at Magic Kingdom on July 24th, which is considered a “moderate” park day, so my Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Magic Kingdom Park was $29.00 per guest. If you go on a day that is considered “peak” or high season, it is rumored that the pass can go for up to $40+ per guest. Again, this is all subject to change, so it’s recommended to check the app for the most accurate prices.
The single passes at Magic Kingdom, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run, cost me $12 and $20 respectively (plus tax).
The single pass for Epcot, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, cost me $17 (plus tax) for Thursday, July 25th.
My Exact Thoughts on the Lightning Lane Multi / Single Pass
By this point, you’re probably thinking “is it worth it or not? Will it really make a difference and give me the opportunity to maximize the magic in my trip to Disney?” My honest answer is: YES AND NO. I firmly believe that there are specific parks where this feature will make a massive difference in your trip to the parks, but it really depends on what your priorities are.
If your priority is riding the rides, and you have more than four rides listed on any of the above-mentioned lists, then yes – this feature is for you. For me, at Magic Kingdom, having the Multi Pass helped me ride big name rides with a short wait time. The biggest problem for me was that once my original three were booked, I had a hard time getting an attraction time for any of the other rides I wanted.
I was not able to ride Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Haunted Mansion because there were no return times available for the entire rest of the day. I was able to get Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, plus the two Single Passes (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run) so it was a relatively successful park day, but I missed out on other rides I love because of the lack of availability.
Another thing that I did not appreciate, personally, was that with the new feature character meet and greets are no longer covered attractions/experiences and that is a huge part of what I like to do when I go to Disney. As someone who used to have the DAS pass, and no longer qualify due to the changes in policy, this was a huge issue for me. I was not able to see characters that I really wanted because I am unable to stand in a traditional line.
Between the lack of availability in attraction windows for the rides I wanted to go on and the lack of character experiences being covered, I don’t think I will be purchasing the multi pass at Magic Kingdom again (unless I’m able to really use it to ride everything I want). For Epcot, I did not need the multi pass because my biggest priority was Guardian’s, and I was able to get a single pass for that. I rarely go to Animal Kingdom anymore, but I think buying the multi pass would really depend on the crowds and what I am in the mood for to ride.
Another important note I did not include was: if you are going later in the day to the parks, to avoid crowds or the heat, then I personally do not think it is worth getting the muti pass for. My best friend did that, and she was not able to maximize the feature to the best of its ability in order to ride rides. In a way, she felt like she was robbed because she paid so much money and wasn’t able to get more than the three pre-selects.
The Lightning Lane Multi Pass is definitely for the people who spend the day at the parks and want to ride as much as possible while there. If I was going for a shorter amount of time, like I do during the summer, then I’d buy the single pass for the rides I want and wing it. I say this for the people who do not have issues standing in traditional lines – If it was me, I would not be able to wing it and would absolutely have to spend the money to ride anything, even if it’s just one ride, because waiting in traditional lines is very difficult for me.
Of ALL the Parks, Which Would I Get the LL Multi Pass at?
The only park that I see myself wanting the multi pass for is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s also the only park where I think the multi pass would be the most efficient way to enjoy the park. Of course, if I’m in the mood for it, I’ll also buy the single pass for Rise of the Resistance when I go to Studios. Overall, Hollywood Studios is the one park where the attractions included are high priority for me and as long as I’m able to continue to get attraction return times throughout the day, then I absolutely would purchase the passes for that park.
In Conclusion
At the end of the day, everything is subject to change, and this is my personal opinion on the new feature. I think it definitely has room for improvement and potential to get better, but until then I will be very selective with which parks and/or trips I actually buy the Lightning Lanes for.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT WANT TO COMPLETELY RULE OUT BUY/USING THE LIGHTENING LANE MULTI PASS IN THE FUTURE UNTIL I USE THIS FEATURE ONE MORE TIME. I know that I will be going back to Disney at the end of August, so I will be trying this again. The reason I want to do it once more is to utilize the “advanced pre-select” option, where I book the LL three-days in advance. Once I’ve done that, and fully experienced this new feature, I’ll update this post or do a new in-depth experience recap. Just wanted to let you know, don’t rule it out based on my feedback just yet. I want to give it one more tries before I give you my final decision. Also, once I use it again, I’ll do a LL v. former DAS pass comparison. I think it’s important that I give Disney the opportunity to prove to me that this feature is worth spending all that additional money on before I tell you whether it’s worth it or not.
