Wow, what a week. Coming back from a three day weekend is always rough, and this week was no different. The four day work week definitely helped it fly by, but work itself was rough and it really drained most of the energy I had left. It didn’t help that my allergies were at their worst and I had a migraine, for what felt like three days.
Something super exciting that happened this week was the first ever, Leave Your Mark Mentoring event with the one and only, Aliza Licht. Aliza wrote a book, also titled Leave your Mark, that truly helped me come out of my “shell” while working at Disney. Of course, when I saw that she was offering this mentoring experience I jumpted at the opporunity. It was small, about ten of us total, and really intimate. She picked people who had varied job experiences, in different industries, but that were still extremely relatable. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved the experience. I would highly recommend it; not only for professional development and networking opportunities, but also for people looking for personal development as well. I’ve been a fan of Aliza Licht for years; her book was life changing for me – I’ll add a picture of how many tabs I have marking advice that I found to be most inspiring and helpful.
Another fun and exciting “thing” I have going on this week is my Mastermind session with Anddria Clack-Rogers Varnado, who is the Vice President, Head of Strategy & Business Development at Macy’s. This was an opportunity presented to me by the Every Girl RISE Conference organizers The Every Girl Media Group and La Marca Prosecco. I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to talk to Anddria about life, work, family, whatever is on my mind at the time. This is just another opportunity for me to network and continue to grow professionally and personally.
I will say, disappointedly, that I have not made a single effort to read this week. After what was two successful books, read in a week, I have gone back to the rut that drags for a few weeks before I binge read a book, again. This pandemic has really screwed up my love for reading, for writing, and for working! It’s exhausting being confined to a house and know that you can’t do the things you love because you feel like you’re going to lose the passion you have for those things. I always joke my dogs need a therapist, but now I’m not so sure they’re the only ones!
On the shopping front, I most definitely have done massive damage. I’ve received several order, and I’m still pending others. Two of the three shipments from SheIn have arrived, and everything was PERFECT – exactly what I was looking for. I’m actually wearing one of the outfits right now, and yesterday I rocked the oversized graphic tee (I think it was supposed to be a dress, but it was a little short for that so I added jean shorts with it). I definitely cheated because one of the items I ordered, that fit perfectly, is a set I had already ordered but in a different color. Then I got like four t-shirt dresses, more tie dye shorts, and another two pairs of sandals. That brings my total of SheIn sandals, since March, to NINE. I’m not going to lie, I love shopping at SheIn; everything is so cute and affordable. I already have a new shopping basket ready to hit buy on (yes I know… I have a problem and need help!)
Besides SheIn, I had a Sephora order for the new Liquid Glass Miracle Smoothing Sealant by Drybar. I also ordered the Liquid Glass shampoo and conditioner since I was out of it. Dae had a sale so I took advantage and also ordered the shampoo and conditioner for when I finish mine. It has officially been decided that the DryBar, Dae, and the Morrocan Oil Purple shampoo are going to be the products I rotate between in my wash schedule. I’m phasing out Ouai and the Kérastase for the time being; this is not to say I won’t use them again, because I probably will. Another purchase made to replace a product I’ve actually used and love is from Megababe. I actually really wanted their collab with Lele Sadoughi, so when it came back in stock I jumped on the opportunity; but I also threw in their Grab and Go set which has a mini deodarant, chafing stick, and the handsanitzer (I love their handsanitzer; I alternate between the Megababe one and the Herbivore one!).
Away also had a sale that I totally jumped on; it was probably the fastest I’ve ever checked out of an order. I have the regular Carry On (with battery), the Medium suitcase, and now I ordered the “Bigger Carry On” with a pocket and battery, and the “Mini” (in pink). Then finally, I have three more orders: Amazon (lounge sets and some bras), Good Sweats from Good American, and ShopDisney – halloween masks to surprise my cousin with!
With all the shopping I’ve done, 2020 needs to end so that I can travel again and wear the things I’ve bought outside of my own damn house!
